Yeng Guiao not overthinking Kiefer Ravena's departure for Shiga stint

NLEX coach Yeng does not want to put too much thought into Kiefer Ravena's departure as the prized guard is set to suit up for the Shiga Lakestars in Japan B. League soon.

Ravena has been given the green light by the PBA on Saturday, July 24, allowing him to play for Shiga for one season once the conference is over.

The following day, July 25, Japan B. League announced anew that the former Ateneo star "will join Shiga Lakestars after the Philippine Cup" of the PBA.

"Ayaw ko munang isipin 'yon e. I think we have to just savor and enjoy Kiefer's presence while he's here and tsaka na namin isipin kung anong puweedng gawin when he leaves for Japan," said Guiao after the Road Warriors beat the Terrafirma Dyip, 108-94, in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City Sunday night.

"So that is something, dahil recently lang naman na-decide yan. Ganon na nga. I was hoping talaga na mag-stay pa siya pero alam naman natin na very rare opportunity 'yon so we understand that.

"As of now, we don't want to think of life without Kiefer. We just want to enjoy this company. We just want to enjoy him being here and making a contribution of the team, tsaka na naman isipin 'yon," added the seven-time PBA champion coach."

Against Terrafirma though, Ravena had a dismal showing with five points, seven assists, and a steal. The 27-year-old Ravena only shot one of his eight attempts from the field to go with three free-throws.

He was also marred with four fouls which prompted him to sit out starting the 6:34 marker up to the end of the third period.

But personally, for Guiao, there was a sigh of relief on his end now that the issue has been settled.

"Personally, I'm a little bit more relaxed because sometimes nag-iisip ka rin kung anong 'yong future ngayon," said the NLEX tactician. "I already said na even before that the team itself was not distracted so parang pareho lang naman.

"Ako 'yong sinabi ko it's just my personal belief that I'm relieved na na-settle na'yon. As I said previously, that issue did not have any effect on the whole team whatsoever."

The Road Warriors are currently ranked sixth with a 2-2 record.
