Mayor Isko lauds city health workers; 30% of total COVID jabs in NCR per day came from Manila

Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso gave due recognition to the city's health workers for continuing its COVID-19 vaccination program despite continuous monsoon rains on July 24.

Domagoso lauded the Manila Health Department (MHD) on Sunday for its exceptional efficiency after successfully inoculating a total of 37,134 vaccinees amid the bad weather and flooding in several areas of the city and in some vaccination sites.

"Tuloy-tuloy lang ang aming pagbabakuna sa Maynila. We did not stop (Our vaccination in the city Manila continued. We did not stop)," Domagoso said.

He added that the 37,134 vaccinees in the city are equivalent to 30 percent of the total COVID-19 jabs in the National Capital Region (NCR) that day. A total of 121,930 people were vaccinated in the NCR.

"This means our system is efficient. It is not perfect, but it is working. Ang main concern natin ay the vaccination has to be faster than the infection. Yung COVID-19, hindi 'yan tumitigil kahit may bagyo, kaya dapat hindi rin tayo tumigil sa pagbabakuna (Our main concern is that the vaccination has to be faster than the infection. COVID-19 does not stop even if there is a storm, that's why we should also not stop in vaccinating the public)," Domagoso said.

"Our policy remains the same. Hangga't maaari ay hindi na talaga namin pinapatagal pa sa storage facility ang mga COVID-19 vaccines (As much as possible, we do not let the COVID-19 vaccines stay any longer at the storage facility). Time is of the essence here. If we wait a second longer, baka mas lumala pa ang sitwasyon (the situation might worsen)," he added.

The mayor also thanked the people who decided to line up for the city's vaccination amid the bad weather and flood. He also promised that the LGU will not stop vaccinating its residents "come hell or high water.”

As of July 25, the city has already deployed 1,217,701 vaccines with 753,070 residents vaccinated with their first dose and 464,631 who have been fully vaccinated.
