'Habagat' rains to persist over Metro Manila, western part of Luzon -- PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday afternoon, July 25, said monsoon rains may persist over the western section of Luzon, including Metro Manila on Monday, July 26.

The southwest monsoon, locally called "habagat," has remained the dominant weather system dumping rains over several parts of the country, particularly Luzon, during the past few days.

"The habagat will continue to be the dominant weather system in the next five days," PAGASA said in its special weather outlook for the final State of the Nation Address of President Duterte on July 26.

By Monday, PAGASA said that Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro will experience cloudy skies all throughout the day.

Light rains may prevail in the morning but there will be occasional moderate rains due to the occurrence of thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, PAGASA said.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may also prevail over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Antique, Apayao, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Tarlac, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or rain-induced landslides during heavy or prolonged rainfall, particularly in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards.
