Public warned of stricter protocols amid Delta variant threat

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) advised the public on Saturday, July 24, that stricter health and safety restrictions will be implemented following the confirmation of not only cases and death but also local transmission of the Delta variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año issued the reminder after ordering the Philippine National Police (PNP) to be more “visible in populated areas’’ in conduct an all-out effort to prevent the transmission of the virus.

“I have given instructions to enforce all laws, ordinances and the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) omnibus guidelines and community quarantine protocols strictly especially that NCR (National Capital Region) is under GCQ (general community quarantine) with heightened restrictions,’’ Año said in an interview.

To ensure the public’s full compliance to health and safety protocols, Año noted that the PNP will work with the local government units in the enforcement of health protocols and stringent border control measures in international airports and seaports.

“Fix and mobile checkpoints will be established to check interzonal movements of people,’’ he added.

Meanwhile, Año took note of the reports that some workers in the excavation sites are not adhering to health protocols.

He then urged the public to immediately report these incidents citing that he immediately had these incidents checked after receiving health protocol report violations most especially super spreader events.
