Over 1,000 QC residents evacuated as continuous rain submerge Metro Manila

Over a thousand people in Quezon City have been evacuated as continuous rain caused floods submerging parts of Metro Manila over the weekend.

At least 1,239 or 276 families living in low-lying and flood-prone areas of barangays Apolonio, Doña Imelda, Bagong Silangan, Tatalon, Roxas, Batasan Hills, Masambong, Sta. Monica and Kristong Hari have been ordered for evacuation since Friday, data as of 5 a.m. of July 24 from the Quezon City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC)showed.

This came following heavy downpour brought by Typhoon Fabian that started Thursday.

On Friday night, many were left stranded due to floodwaters that even reached waist-deep in different cities.

A video trending on Facebook showed a sedan partly submerged in flood on V. Luna St. in Quezon City, with its wheels no longer visible.

Other areas were also no longer passable to all types of vehicles due to knee-deep water, including the corners Amoranto and Samat on Biak Na Bato.

Meanwhile, photos posted by the city’s DRRMC showed rescuers onboard a boat sailing through Barangay Kamuning’s flood while conducting a search-and-rescue operation.
