A family of seven was rendered homeless after a landslide toppled their shanty located on a hill at the height of heavy downpour in Angono, Rizal, early Saturday morning.

In a post on Barangay San Isidro’s Facebook page, it was learned that a house on High View De Castro in Barangay San Isidro was torn down by a minor landslide that happened in the area.

Lloyd Faman, a barangay hall staff in Barangay San Isidro, told Manila Bulletin that no one was hurt in the incident that occurred around 1 a.m. as the family’s patriarch, a certain Royeth Noel, was able to evacuate his five kids and wife before the landslide destroyed their shanty.

“Nang may narinig na tunog na parang may gumuguho, agad daw pong pinalabas ng tatay ng mga bata ang miyembro ng pamilya niya at nakalayo sila sa lugar kaya hindi sila nadaganan, (When the father of the family heard a noise of something caving in, he immediately ordered his family members to move out to safety, that is why they were not hurt),” Faman said.

The incident was only reported to the barangay office around 1 p.m., according to the barangay staff.

“Ang nadatnan na lang namin ang nasirang barong-barong nang makarating kami sa lugar ng landslide sa High View mga bandang ala una ng hapon, (All that we found were some debris of the toppled shanty when we reached the site of the landslide around 1 p.m.),” Fama told Manila Bulletin.

Aside from the damaged shanty, no casualty was reported in Angono despite the bad weather, according to Engr. Arnold Pinon, officer of the Angono Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Luisita Vestra, head of the Municipal Social Welfare Office, told Manila Bulletin that only eight families comprising 42 individuals were evacuated in Barangay San Roque as a preemptive measure.
