DSWD logs 4,585 evacuee-families

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Saturday, July 23, that more than 4,500 families or more than 19,400 individuals displaced by typhoon “Fabian" are currently taking temporary shelter in evacuation centers.

Citing the report of its Disaster Response Management Bureau (DRMB), the DSWD said as of July 24, 6 p.m., a total of 4,585 families or 19,444 individuals are staying in 126 evacuation centers from five affected regions.

“There are 4,585 families or 19,444 persons currently taking temporary shelter in 126 evacuation centers in Regions III (Central Luzon), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), National Capital Region (NCR), and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR),” it said in a statement on Saturday.

The DSWD expressed readiness to augment the resources of the local government units (LGUs) affected by flooding caused by monsoon rains and enhanced by typhoon “Fabian”.

It said the Quick Response Teams (QRT) may be deployed for the provision of technical assistance to LGUs, if necessary.

“DSWD is continuously coordinating with the Local Social Welfare and Development Offices (LSWDOs) of affected cities and municipalities to ensure that sufficient assistance will be provided to residents affected by the floods and the inclement weather,” it said.

The Social Welfare agency also urged the public to remain alert and heed the warnings of their LGUs to prevent any untoward incidents.
