Casimero to Rigondeaux: Don't run, I want a fight

John Riel Casimero turned into trashtalk mode and challenged Guillermo Rigondeaux not to run away from him once they clash in the ring at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California on Aug. 14.

While Casimero lauded the veteran Cuban boxer for accepting the challenge once more after the withdrawal of Nonito Donaire, the Filipino WBO bantamweight champion did not spare him from his humor.

"Rigondeaux, fight me," said Casimero as quoted by BoxingScene.com. "Don’t run. I want a fight. You know, because Rigondeaux runs. People who are watching are sleeping. All of the fights of Rigondeaux are no good. Always run, run, and all the fans are asleep. They’re tired of watching. This fight August 14th, maybe no run. You box, always you run."

Rigondeaux, who was subtly throwing words on social media, did not respond to Casimero's insults.

Instead, the regular WBO champion said, "It's simple and plain. ou do your job, I’ll do my thing. You do you, I’ll do me, and then we’ll see each other in the ring."

Rigondeaux, 40, earlier vowed to unleash his new tricks up his sleeves against the trash-talking Casimero.

Rigondeaux was the original opponent of Casimero set by Premier Boxing Champions last April before the all-Filipino bout with Donaire was announced.

However, Donaire, the WBC champion, backed out of the fight due to concerns regarding VADA testings and their confrontation with Casimero's camp.

Casimero, 32, boasts a six-match win streak with the latest coming from a technical knockout win against Ghanaian slugger Duke Micah last September.

Rigondeaux, for his part, has not fought since scoring a split decision over Venezuelan boxer Liborio Solis in February last year.

Casimero and and Rigondeaux will dispute the former's WBO belt.
