5 new cases of Delta variant detected in Manila

Five new cases of Delta variant of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were detected in Manila, Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso announced in his daily capital report on Saturday (July 24).

"Mga kababayan, sa Maynila po ay may limang kumpirmado three weeks ago na Delta variant. Lima po. Salamat sa Diyos as of today ay mukhang ligtas na po sila (In Manila they were five confirmed Delta variants three weeks ago. Thank God as of today they are safe)," Domagoso said.

The Department of Health on Saturday has detected 17 new cases of the more transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant in the country, 12 of which were considered local cases.

Domagoso disclosed that one Delta case was detected in Sampaloc; one in Parola, one in Gagalangin, Tondo; one in Apacible, Ermita; and one the area of Taft Avenue.

The Manila Health Department (MHD) has traced the immediate families and those who were exposed to the five new cases of Delta variant. Some of them tested negative while others tested positive for COVID-19.

Domagoso said those who tested positive have already recovered.

"Ligtas sila, ‘yung iba positibo pa pero so far asymptomatic sila at awa ng Diyos wala pang napaulat sa kanila na bumaba ang Ct (cycle threshold, value 20)," he said.

Domagoso also reminded the public to stay indoors as much as possible, especially the areas where the five new cases were detected.

"Magtatagumpay ang pamahalaan ang kanyang mga layunin, plano at programang labanan ang pandemya kung ang mamamayan ay nakikipag-isa (The city government will be successful in its purpose, plans and programs to fight the pandemic if the people cooperate)," Domagoso said.
