3 key Luzon roads remain impassable due to typhoon damage--DPWH

Three roads in Luzon remained impassable as of Saturday, July 24, due to damage caused by the heavy downpour that had been enhanced by typhoon Fabian.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said nine roads have been cleared but two roads in Cordillera Administrative Region and one in Region IV-B are closed to traffic due to collapsed soil and damaged detour bridge and box culvert caused by the non-stop downpour.

Warning signs and palliative measures are being undertaken to restore access along Baguio-Bontoc Road, specifically at Busa Bridge in Sabangan, Mt. Province. The section became impassable due to soil collapse at the bridge approach. Motorists may take Maba-ay - Abatan Provincial Road as an alternative road.

A section of the Abra-Kalinga Road in Gacab, Malibcong, Abra was closed due to soil and rock collapse. Clearing operation in the area has been hampered due to weather and unstable slope condition. The public are told to take Abra-Ilocos Sur Road-McArthur Highway-Maharlika Highway as an alternative route.

In Occidental Mindoro, the Araang Section and Pag-asa Section of Mindoro West Coastal Road are impassable due to washed out approaches of Araang Bridge and washed out box culvert.

Meanwhile, the department said that all national roads and bridges in National Capital Region, Regions III, IV-A and IV-B are passable to all types of vehicles following the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that jolted Calatagan, Batangas Saturday morning.

"There has been no received report of damages as of this time on the effect of the earthquake with post-earthquake assessment ongoing," the department said.
