Vax 1, Take 1: Senior citizens' companions in Navotas City to get J&J jab

The city government of Navotas announced on Thursday that companions of senior citizens will also be inoculated with the Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine against COVID-19.

“Ang Janssen ay para talaga sa mga senior citizens, pero may Vax 1, Take 1 po tayo sa ating pagbabakuna ng Janssen sa Tangos National High School at Tanza Elementary School (Janssen is really for senior citizens, but we have Vax 1, Take 1 in our Janssen vaccination at Tangos National High School and Tanza Elementary School),” Mayor Toby Tiangco announced in a Facebook post.

“Ibig sabihin, ang mga sasama o aalalay sa mga senior na magpapabakuna ay babakunahan na rin natin ng Janssen (In other words, those who will accompany or assist the seniors for vaccination will also be inoculated with the Janssen vaccine),” he added.

The senior citizen’s companion must also be a resident of Navotas.

Tiangco said it is a way of encouraging the senior citizens to get the COVID-19 jab.

“Kailangang-kailangan po natin na mahikayat ang ating mga senior na magpabakuna at kung hirap silang pumunta sa vaccination site at kailangang may kasama, babakunahan na rin natin ang kasama nila (We really need to encourage our seniors to get vaccinated, and if they find it difficult to go to the vaccination site and need someone to go with them, we will also vaccinate their companion,” he said.

Senior citizens can register online at https://covax.navotas.gov.ph/.

Slots will also be allotted for senior citizens who will not be able to register online.
