LOOK: PCG Northwestern Luzon on heightened alert as 'Fabian' wrath continues

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) placed its units in northwestern Luzon on a heightened alert on Friday, July 23, to prepare for possible disaster response operations due to the continuous threat of typhoon “Fabian.”

Commodore Inocencio Rosario Jr., commander of PCG District Northwestern Luzon, ordered personnel of Coast Guard stations in the affected areas to prepare for the possible flooding and landslides in the region.

Rosario also directed the arrangement of deployable response group equipment to assist the local government units in conducting evacuation and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, PCG personnel were deployed in various ports in the region to respond to maritime incidents during the rainy season.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said typhoon “Fabian” will likely leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Friday, July 23, but may continue to enhance the effect of the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”

The PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or rain-induced landslides during heavy or prolonged rainfall, particularly in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards.
