3 major roads in Luzon impassable due to 'Fabian'-triggered lanslide, rock fall--DPWH

Three roads in Luzon, including Kennon Road, remained impassable Friday afternoon, July 23, due to landslide and rock fall resulting from the heavy downpour that had been enhanced by typhoon "Fabian".

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said they are now working to restore access to the three affected national road sections.

The DPWH Bureau of Maintenance said that as of 12 noon Friday, July 23, the temporarily-closed roads included Kennon Road in Camp 5, Tuba, Benguet due to rock fall; and a section of Abra-Kalinga Road in Gacab, Malibcong, Abra due to soil and rock collapse.

The public was advised to take Baguio-Bauang Road instead as Kennon Road remained impassable.

Meanwhile, a section of the Calapan North Road (CNR) in Barangay Aninuan, Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro was also deemed impassable due to landslides.

"Clearing operation of the DPWH Quick Response Team is now ongoing along CNR. Other teams in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) are on standby to resume clearing affected road sections once weather is deemed safe for the crew and equipment," the department said.

Initial clearing operations on the affected areas were hampered due to adverse weather conditions and unstable slope conditions.

All national roads and bridges in other regions are passable to all types of vehicles.
