Tricycle driver stabs student to death over parking row

A tricycle driver in Caloocan City reportedly stabbed to death a criminology student over a parking problem he mistakenly thought was caused by the victim.

Police are now hunting down Matias Avenido for allegedly killing 20-year-old Junel Talan on Tuesday night when he ran amok after having difficulty in parking his tricycle due to several motorcycles parked in their area.

Three others were wounded. They were the victim’s two brothers and aunt.

The incident, which was caught in a closed-circuit television (CCTV) video, happened at around 7:30 p.m in Barangay 12 where Avenido confronted the victims outside their house before wielding a knife.

The victims said the motorcycles parked in the area triggered Avenido's rage. However, they said, they are not the owners of the parked motorcycles.

Prior to the incident, Jeff Talan, one of the victims, said in a DZRH interview that he and the suspect also engaged in another confrontation over the same issue.

The concern was even lodged with the barangay but Avenido did not show up.

Talan called on the suspect's parents to turn over their son after they allegedly let him escape.
