PTV presents President Rodrigo Duterte's final SONA

It’s all systems go for People’s Television (PTV) Network’s extensive coverage of President Rodrigo Duterte’s final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 26, 2021.

Dubbed “Pamana ng Pagbabago,” the program will be highlighted by the President’s final report to the nation as Chief Executive in which his administration’s achievements, COVID-19 pandemic response and even future political plans are expected to be discussed. To ensure that no stones will be left unturned for the historic coverage, PTV General Manager Katherine de Castro PTV’s decided to go full blast in deploying the resources the government network has.

“We will maximize PTV’s manpower and technical resources nationwide as well as all our station-produced programs to fully-communicate the messages the President wants to put across through his final SONA,” she said.

PTV’s SONA coverage will begin two days ahead of the Batasang Pambansa event, through its primetime news programs Ulat Bayan Weekend (Saturdays and Sundays, 6-630 p.m.), which will report the preparations for Monday’s big occasion.

On the day of the actual SONA, all PTV programs, including its morning magazine show “Rise and Shine Pilipinas!,” on-air public briefing “Laging Handa” and all the newsbreaks will carry exclusively SONA-related news reports including both pro- and anti-government public rallies.

Everything will all lead to the main program, “Pamana ng Pagbabago,” which will be hosted by Presidential Communications Operations Office Undersecretary Rocky Ignacio and veteran broadcaster Erwin Tulfo, eventually carrying President Duterte’s speech, which is expected to be delivered by 4pm.

A wrap up of the day’s SONA events and activities will be delivered via PTV’s late night English newscast, PTV News Tonight at 9:30pm, preceding the SONA replay immediately after that.

While the narrative theme of this year’s SONA will focus on what can be considered the Duterte administration’s heirloom legacies, its inspiration in terms of form will be Mindanaoan.

“Expect something classy, simple, modest yet impactful to be translated on your TV screens,” de Castro said. “More than the fact that our President is from the region, he is one who would surely prefer to be portrayed in a rather subdued, unpretentious way and certainly not grand,” she added.
