Perlas Spikers finally set to play in PVL on Sunday

Perlas finally got the clearance to start its Premier Volleyball League Open Conference campaign on Sunday, July 25, after being isolated for a week.

Organizers decided to delay the Perlas Spikers’ matches and move them into isolation after a team delegate tested positive for COVID-19 days before Saturday’s inaugurals.

Though none from the players and coaching staff tested positive, the league made the decision for the health and safety of everyone in the tournament bubble.

All team members tested negative in another round of RT-PCR test after undergoing quarantine, paving way for the start of their stint.

In a social media post Thursday, the Perlas Spikers couldn’t hide their excitement to get down to work.

“We were told it is just a delay... not a denial. Thank you to everyone who has whispered a prayer, who has sent encouraging messages, and who has rallied behind us... Your Perlas Spikers now have a chance to FIGHT!” the team wrote on their Twitter account.

It will be a grueling week for Perlas to catch up with nine other teams with four games scheduled in the next seven days.

It includes back-to-back matches against PetroGazz and Cignal HD starting this Sunday, followed by Chery Tiggo and Creamline next Friday and Sunday.

While Perlas is barely starting, Choco Mucho seeks to follow up its fiery start when it clashes with Sta Lucia on Friday.

Match is at 3 p.m. with the Flying Titans coming off a 28-26, 10-25, 27-25, 25-11 victory over the PLDT Home Fibr Hitters on Wednesday.

PetroGazz, meanwhile, aims to bounce back from Tuesday’s four-set defeat to Creamline when it tangles with Cignal HD at 6 p.m.

The Angels currently sport a 1-1 card.

The Sta Lucia Lady Realtors, on the other hand, carry a 1-2 record heading into their matchup against the Flying Titans while the HD Spikers are coming off a 25-22, 25-18, 12-25, 25-20 win over the Lady Realtors last Wednesday for 1-1.
