Netizens react to Morissette's decision to sing PH national anthem at Duterte's final SONA

Morissette

Some netizens are not happy with Filipino singer Morissette who will perform the Philippine national anthem during the final State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Duterte at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on July 26.

In fact, some even deemed her as Diehard Duterte Supporter or DDS, which is a common tag used by the opposition.

The backlash happened after the announcement that Morissette will sing the national anthem in the President's last State of the Nation (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa on July 26.

In an article published on ABS-CBN, Undersecretary Demic Pabalan of Radio TV Malacanan (RTVM) said that Morissette will sing the national anthem to the accompaniment of pre-recorded music from the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) under conductor Herminigildo Ranera.

Online users were divided over her forthcoming performance.

"Performing for this administration is performing for Duterte. Kaya nga maraming singers ang NEVER pumayag mag perform for Trump when he was in office. Same thing here. If she has any ounce of respect for herself and her career, she would not accept this. Unless she's a DDS," one wrote.

Another comment read: "DDS realness. Ewwwww."

Many admitted they were "disappointed" with her decision to perform for Duterte.

"Like seriously? (face vomiting emoji)."

Others even wished Morissette would be out of tune.

Fellow artists defended Morissette.

"Ang pagkanta sa SONA ay hindi equal sa pagiging DDS. Ang OA lang talaga ng iba mag react. Isang maliit na balita, pinapalaki at ginagawang issue," a Twitter user wrote.

"It's our national anthem performance and the fact that she personally said that she (doesn't) want the (current) administration in her (life) so no worries guys this is just giving respect to our country and to the anthem mas panget yung kung ang ibabalita jan na tinangihan niya na kanthin yung pambansang awit ng Pilipinas diba?!?!! Morissette Amon is pro Filipino!!!"

Morissette didn't react to netizens' comments. But some fans noticed how she "liked" the tweet of an online user who wrote: "Bakit sinasabi na DDS si Morissette??? National Anthem kakantahin. She will sing for the country not for Dugong HAHAHAHA."
