Marikina River reaches 13.9 meters following downpour

Marikina River’s water level has reached 13.9 meters on Thursday night (July 22), according to the Marikina City Public Information Office (PIO).

In an update issued by the PIO, it said that the water level of Marikina River hit 13.9 meters around 6:25 p.m. There is still no alert level.

First alarm will be raised once the water level reaches 15 meters. The city government will then sound sirens to alert residents dwelling in low-lying areas in Marikina.

All the eight flood gates of Manggahan floodway are now open, the PIO added.

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro reportedly went to the river to check its condition to ensure the safety of residents.

For any emergency, Marikina residents may dial 161 to contact the rescue unit of the city government.

Heavy rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon caused floods all over Metro Manila.
