DOH reports 5,828 new COVID-19 cases

The Philippines has recorded 5,828 more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Thursday, July 22.

The country's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is at 1,530,266, of which, 50,562 cases are still active.

Of the active cases, 92.7 percent have mild symptoms, 1.6 percent were asymptomatic, 1.5 percent were critical, 2.5 percent were in severe condition, and 1.74 percent have moderate symptoms.

Meanwhile, the death toll reached 26,891 after 17 more patients died. The recovery tally also jumped to 1,452,813 with 3,257 new recoveries.

The OCTA research group said it has already observed an uptick in COVID-19 cases again amid the threat of the Delta variant of the coronavirus.

OCTA fellow Prof. Guido David said that they projected that the daily reported cases may hit 10,000 in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the DOH said that the government is further increasing the country’s health care capacity in order to prepare for the possible surge in cases.

“Rest assured that the government is doing its best to prepare our healthcare system for a possible surge, regardless of community quarantine classification,” it said.
