DOH-Bicol says Delta variant case earlier reported 'not a local case' in the region

One of the new Delta variant cases reported earlier was not a local case in the Bicol region, the Department of Health (DOH)-Bicol clarified on Thursday, July 22.

The DOH announced 12 new cases of Delta variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) virus, one of whom has an address in the Bicol region.

However, the DOH-Bicol clarified that the said case was a “Bicolano who is currently working in the National Capital Region (NCR).”

“The patient is a 27-year-old female from Sorsogon who has neither travelled to Bicol for the last three years nor have been visited by someone from Bicol before getting sick,” said the DOH-Bicol.

“Hence, the patient is not a local case of the region. Her specimen was taken at the Lung Center of the Philippines last June 25, 2021,” it added.

Residents of the Bicol region were advised to strictly adhere to the health protocols amid the threat of the Delta variant.

“The minimum public health standards remain as the best preventive measure against all mutations of the virus. Properly wear face mask and face shield, sanitize your hands, maintain social distancing, and avoid crowded and enclosed spaces,” the DOH-Bicol said.
