Brazilian volleyball coach arrives in PH to join women's team

Brazilian coach Jorge Edson Souza de Brito arrived in the country Wednesday night after a long wait to join the national women’s volleyball team in its bubble training in Batangas on Aug. 1.

Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Tats Suzara made the announcement in a story posted on its official website Thursday.

Suzara said Souza de Brito is completing his mandatory quarantine until July 31 before he could join the PH team, which is preparing for the 21st Asian Senior Women’s Championship set from Aug. 29 to Sept. 5 in Pampanga.

Majority of the 16-member national pool has trained in Laoag, Ilocos Norte since July 1 under PH team coach Odjie Mamon.

Souza de Brito’s arrival was delayed due to visa problems.

It was not mentioned if Souza de Brito would name the four new players who would be added to the pool.

Of those 16, only 11 attended the Laoag bubble, which included college and high school standouts Eya Laure, Faith Nisperos and Alyssa Solomon among others.

Jaja Santiago, Mylene Paat, Riri Meneses, Dell Palomata, Aby Marano and Majoy Baron are among those who have yet to join the team at press time due to their commitments with their mother club teams.

The Filipinos drew Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan in Pool A.
