BI deports 9 more Japanese fugitives

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported an additional batch of nine Japanese fugitives wanted in their homeland for large-scale telecommunications fraud.

Japanese police officers escorted the deportees when they boarded their flight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City. They were bound for Narita Airport in Narita, Japan.

Early this month, 10 of their cohorts were also sent back home to face trial for their crimes in Tokyo.

The 19 fugitives were among the 34 Japanese nationals arrested by BI intelligence operatives in a hotel in Makat City in November 2019. They carried out their illegal activities there.

"They were involved in voice phishing, extortion and other victimizing their compatriots of some ¥2 million during the past years," said BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.

The latest batch of deportees were identified as Matsuoka Shunjiro, Haga Kenji, Yoshizawa Shinichi, Takada Tasuya, Araki Toshiya, Ogawa Takuma, Hiramura Takashi, Kita Yasuke, and Ichimura Shinichi.

Morente said the undesirable aliens were placed on the BI's blacklist to prevent them from returning to the Philippines.
