1.5M more Sinovac doses arrive

The Philippine government received on Thursday morning, July 22, additional 1.5 million doses of Sinovac, bringing the total number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines delivered in the country to almost 30 million doses.

But there will be more as additional one million doses of Sinovac are also expected to arrive on Friday.

The Sinovac doses that arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 today, along with those which will be received on Friday, were procured by the government in a move to vaccinate as many people to attain herd immunity.

Currently, the National Task Force on COVID-19 said is focusing on the vaccination of essential workers, or those classified under A4.

The Philippine government is targeting 70 percent of Philippine population to achieve herd immunity, the focus is Metro Manila and other areas with high cases of COVID-19.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez said the country has enough supply of vaccines for the government’s vaccination program for the rest of the year. He said millions of doses of COVID-19 vaccines are expected to arrive in the coming months.

Based on the NTF on COVID-19 data, a total of 29,985,130 million doses of vaccines have been delivered in the country as of July 22. More than 15.6 million people have been so far vaccinated.

Of the vaccine doses delivered, 16 million of them are Sinovac; more than 6.8 million are AstraZeneca; three million are Pfizer; a total of 500,400 are Moderna; and 350,000 are Sputnik.
