PNP ready to assist in contact-tracing as Delta variant threatens PH
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday, July 21, that it is ready to help in the contact-tracing amid the confirmation of cases and deaths relating to the Delta variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said a number of police personnel have been trained before for contact-tracing and these could be tapped as the government is planning to intensify the efforts to locate all people who made close contact with those who were infected by the Delta variant.
The Department of Health has said there are eight active cases of Delta variant in the country. Contact tracing is ongoing to determine who had direct contact with the patients who were infected with the variant that is believed to be more transmissible.
“We will coordinate with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Department of Health so we can determine how many additional contact tracers are needed," said Eleazar.
Eleazar recently tasked concerned police units to prepare for the possible worst case scenario due to the COVID-19 Delta variant’s threat.
He also called on the public to cooperate and strictly follow minimum public health safety standards and quarantine protocols to avoid getting infected with COVID-19.
