A modern fish market that will give smallholder farmers and fisherfolk in the metropolis access to the facilities needed to boost their livelihood will be built in Taguig City.

The fish market will be among the major features of the two-hectare agri-industrial hub project that will be implemented by the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the city.

It will be a 6,000-square meter modern fish market that will house helpful resources, including state-of-the-art production technology, hatcheries and nurseries, and capital and value-adding facilities.

The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) will oversee the establishment of the fish market as part of the DA's Agri-industrial Business Corridor (ABC) for freshwater aquaculture and urban farming.

Agriculture Secretary William Dar said the project "will level up the urban agriculture of the country.”

The memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the project says that PFDA's role includes the construction of a fish landing wharf with warehouse and cold storage facility.

Once the facilities are completed, the Taguig City government will manage and maintain the agri-industrial hub and ensure its sustainable operation for the 10-year duration of the project. It will also provide necessary funding, equipment, and manpower for the development of the access road from the highway to the site.

It will also construct agriculture, lake and river management, and environment and natural resources offices.

The entire agri-industrial hub project received an initial funding of P300 million under the Bayanihan 2 law.
