PCG intensifies monitoring, regular patrols to prevent illegal entries from Indonesia
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Southern Mindanao has ordered on Tuesday, July 20, all its units to intensify monitoring and regular patrols to prevent illegal entries from Indonesia amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Delta variant threat.

Captain Rejard Mafre, acting commander of PCG District Southern Mindanao, instructed all Coast Guard units in the region to coordinate with local government units and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that strict measures in place.
Meanwhile, PCG Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. directed all Coast Guard units to step up monitoring the monitoring of ships after two vessels from Indonesia arrived in the country with 12 of its crew members on board positive for COVID-19.
“Indonesia shares borders with the Philippines in Southern Mindanao. The said Asian country is recently included by the national government on the list of countries with strict restrictions amid the surge of COVID-19 cases,” the PCG said in a statement on Tuesday.

Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosette Vergeire revealed on Monday, July 19, there are now three deaths among the 35 Delta variant cases in the country.
Vergeire said all Delta variant cases are immediately re-assessed to determine their current clinical, laboratory, and isolation status.
