Comelec suspends overseas voter registration in NCR due to inclement weather

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday, July 21, suspended overseas voter registration operations in the National Capital Region due to inclement weather.

The Comelec Office for Overseas Voting announced the suspension in a Facebook post.

"We will suspend our overseas voting registration operations at the OFOV Registration Center at Comelec Main Office and our Local Field Registration Centers (LFRCs) at the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Aseana, DFA - SM Manila, DFA - Robinson's Galleria, and MARINA - SM Manila starting 12 noon today, July 21, due to the inclement weather in NCR and surrounding areas," read the post.

The Comelec earlier said there are already a total of 1,423,941 qualified overseas voters registered as of May 19, 2021.

The poll body is still targetting to still register more.

"We are constantly in touched with the Department of Foreign Affairs with regard to reaching this 1.6 million registered voters. I think we need to reach out to the relatives, friends of OFWs here in the Philippines and abroad because sometimes qualified voters are no longer interested in voting," Philip Luis Marin of the Comelec - OFOV said in a virtual press briefing on June 11.

He said they hope the relatives and friends of OFWs will help convince them to register and vote.

Overseas voter registration will run until September 30, 2021.
