Authorities seize over P790K worth of lumber in Surigao del Norte

Authorities seized over P790,000 worth of illegal hardwood lumbers in Surigao del Norte after the interception of a truck carrying the illegal-cut woods on Sunday, July 18.

The 10-wheeler wing van truck and its driver Danny Simeon were held for the illegal transport of the lumbers in Surigao Baseport, Barangay Taft, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

During the joint inspection, it was revealed that the loaded cargoes were hardwood lumbers, locally known as “lauan,” which were concealed as coco lumbers. The PCG said the confiscated 477 pieces of lumbers have an estimated market value of approximately P793,611.

Simeon is now facing a case of violating of Section 77 of Presidential Decree No. 705 due the absence of necessary documents and permits pertaining to the transport of lumbers.

The truck is now under the custody of the DENR for further investigation.

Meanwhile, PCG Station Surigao del Norte Commander Elaine Pangilinan urged the public to follow environmental laws and avoid commission of any unlawful activities.
