UP mulls hosting future UAAP games with new facilities

New facilities in University of the Philippines may possibly host future games for the next UAAP seasons to come.

Francisco "Kiko" Diaz, dean of UP College of Human Kinetics, bared that four major venues in Diliman, Quezon City are soon to be available for the league, which is currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under construction are the baseball/softball stadium, the football pitch, the track oval around the field, and UP's swimming pool.

Diaz said the baseball/softball stadium is at par with the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila while the football pitch is actually finished around two years ago.

"What remains to be completed is the track oval around the football pitch and nabitin lang nang kaunti 'yong construction but we're in the process of trying to negotiate with some of the contractors," said the UP official during the recent UAAP Talk show.

"Hopefully, UP swimming pool will also be ready. Hopefully, by next year. Kasi lahat noong specification nito are all in compliance with international federation requirements in terms of games, specificity, requirements para sa mga larong ito. That's something we have to be looking forward to."

Meanwhile, Atty. Rebo Saguisag, UAAP executive director, said the 84th season may possibly push through next year with specific sports considered.

The entirety of UAAP Season 83 has been scrapped due to the COVID-19 situation in the Philippines and it may take a long road for the league to resume its operations.
