Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday, July 20, wished President Duterte well should he pursue his vice presidential bid in the May 2022 polls.

Robredo was asked to comment about Duterte’s plan to run as vice president to get away from the legal liabilities after he steps down from presidency next year.
Instead of dwelling with the legality of his vice presidential bid, Robredo chose to extend her well wishes to the Chief Executive.
“Kung halimbawa tumakbo siya, manalo siya, ang wish ko lang sa kanya sana hindi niya pagdaanan iyong pinagdaanan ko habang VP ako (If he decides to run and wins, my only wish for him is he will not go through what I experienced when I was the VP),” she said in a media interview.
During the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan’s (PDP-Laban) national assembly on Saturday, July 17, Duterte said he will just run as vice president to be immune from lawsuits.
Members of the administration party have been urging Duterte to run for vice president in 2022, citing the need for continuity of his policies, particularly his campaigns against illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption.

“Sabi ng batas, na kung Bise Presidente ka, may immunity ka. Eh, ‘di tatakbo na lang ako ng Bise Presidente (The law says that if you’re the Vice President, you will have immunity. I will just run then),” he said.
However, legal experts disputed Duterte’s claim that the vice president will enjoy immunity from legal repercussions.
Duterte started floating the idea of running as vice president after the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague said that preliminary investigation found a “reasonable basis” to believe that crime against humanity of murder was committed under his administration’s anti-drug war.
