Robredo on Eid'l Adha: Filipinos united in faith, courage

Vice President Leni Robredo urged Filipinos to continuously keep their values and spirit up amid the pandemic as the country commemorates Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice on Tuesday, July 20.

In a statement her office released to the media, Robredo said the observance of Eid’l Adha is “a celebration of faith and its ability to endow us with the courage to meet any challenge.”

“As we have seen countless times during this pandemic, there are more things that bring us together than tear us apart—kindness, compassion, and the genuine desire for a world where people of all faiths thrive and flourish under a banner of hope,” she added.

Eid’l Adha commemorates the willingness of prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah.

President Duterte has declared Tuesday a public holiday throughout the country for Filipino Muslims to commemorate the Muslim feast.

It is one of the two most important holidays in the Muslim calendar. The other is the celebration of Eid’l Fitr or the end of Ramadan.

The vice president said that Filipinos should “come together in solidarity, shared humanity, and the common good” as she greeted the Muslims families on Eid’l Adha.

Robredo also called on Filipinos to “hold fast to their values as we journey towards the vision of a better normal.”

“Though the road may be long, I know that the Filipino has the resolve to reach this aspiration,” she stressed.
