Creamline rose from an opening-set hiccup as it outplayed PetroGazz, 24-26, 28-26, 25-22, 25-20, in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Tuesday, July 20, at the PVC Socio-Civic & Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.

Four players bannered by Alyssa Valdez pumped in double figures for the Cool Smashers, who improved to a 2-0 mark following their four-set victory over the Sta Lucia Lady Realtors last Saturday.

Valdez fired 16 points including 13 attacks, Jeanette Panaga chipped in 15 points, and Michele Gumabao and Risa Sato added 12 and 11 for Creamline – many thanks to versatile setter Jia Morado.

Morado was able to distribute the ball well to finish with 35 excellent sets.

The match was a preview of their 2019 Open Conference finals where the Cool Smashers eventually won.

PetroGazz’s resolve, however, was not to be discounted with Ces Molina, Ria Meneses and Remy Palma pouncing on Creamline’s defense.

But the Angels appeared to have lost steam in the crucial moments, allowing the Cool Smashers to regain the edge.

Molina and Palma finished with 18 and 17 points while Meneses had 16 for PetroGazz, which absorbed its first loss in two starts.
