K-pop superstars BTS’ new song “Permission to Dance” debuted at No. 1 on the July 24-dated Billboard Hot 100 chart, replacing their own track “Butter” at the top.

With “Permission to Dance,” BTS extended their No. 1 run on the Hot 100 for eight consecutive weeks after “Butter” reigned on top for seven weeks.

The Billboard Hot 100 is based on US streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales.

“Permission to Dance” was released on July 9 as part of BTS’ CD single “Butter.” On the latest Hot 100, “Butter” ranked seventh.

According to Billboard, “Permission to Dance” is the 1,126th No. 1 song in the Hot 100's 62-year history and the 55th track to debut at No. 1.

Based on MRC Data, “Permission to Dance” garnered 15.9 million US streams and 1.1 million radio airplay audience impressions, and sold 140,100 downloads as of July 15.

On the other hand, “Butter” debuted at No. 1 on Hot 100 on the June 5-dated chart with 32.2 million US streams, 18.1 million radio airplay audience impressions and 242,800 downloads.

“Permission to Dance” also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, “where it's BTS' eighth No. 1, extending the act's record for the most among groups. It also begins at No. 8 on Streaming Songs.”

The song is BTS’ fifth No. 1 on the Hot 100 after “Dynamite,” "Savage Love (Laxed–Siren Beat)" with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, "Life Goes On," and "Butter."

According to Billboard, “BTS has achieved its Hot 100 No. 1s over a span of 10 months and two weeks. That's the quickest accumulation of five leaders since Michael Jackson tallied five, all from his album Bad, over nine months and two weeks in 1987-88: ‘I Just Can't Stop Loving You,’ with Siedah Garrett, ‘Bad,’ ‘The Way You Make Me Feel,’ ‘Man in the Mirror’ and ‘Dirty Diana.’"

“The Beatles hold the mark for the quickest span of five Hot 100 No. 1s, having earned their first five over exactly six months in 1964: "’ Want to Hold Your Hand,’ ‘She Loves You,’ ‘Can't Buy Me Love,’ ‘Love Me Do’ and ‘A Hard Day's Night,’” it added.

“Permission to Dance” is BTS’ fourth song to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. This made BTS the fourth artist to have at least four No. 1 debuts on the chart. Ariana Grande has five while Justin Bieber and Drake have four each.

“With ‘Dance’ replacing ‘Butter’ atop the Hot 100, BTS is the first artist to dethrone itself since Drake, whose ‘In My Feelings’ ended the eight-week reign of ‘Nice for What’ on the July 21, 2018 chart,” Billboard reported.

“Butter” placed seventh on the July 24-dated Hot 100 chart with 49,800 in sales (down by 54 percent from last week’s 108,800), 11.2 million US streams (up by 4 percent from last week’s 10.8 million) and 29.7 million radio airplay audience impressions (an increase of 2 percent from last week’s 29.1 million impressions).
