Valenzuela gov't gives NexGreen's displaced workers new jobs

The Valenzuela City government has extended assistance to former employees of NexGreen Enterprise, the factory that paid one of its workers' salary in coins, following the latter's business permit suspension.

Mayor Rex Gatchalian on Friday met with 13 employees of the company to help them look for new jobs through the city's Public Employment Service Office.

"Maraming salamat din sa (We also thank) DMCI, CDO Foodsphere, Inc., Rebisco, at Innovative Packaging Solutions na magbibigay ng trabaho para sa kanila (for giving them jobs)," Gatchalian said in a Facebook post.

The local government also gave the displaced workers food pack while awaiting employment.

The local government's move came after Gatchalian suspended NexGreen's business permit for violating various labor laws, including inappropriate wage payment. The company's violation was discovered after one of its factory workers, Russel Mañoza, sought Gatchalian's help when he received his P1,056 salary purely in coins.

The local government, in a statement, reminded its residents that it has an existing Tripartite Industrial Peace Council to address labor issues.

For labor concerns and other possible business violations, residents may reach out to the city government through (02) 8 352-1000.
