The Philippine government is expecting the arrival of more than 10 million doses of various vaccine brands against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) this month.

National Task Force Against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer and testing czar Secretary Vince Dizon said these vaccine brands include Sinovac Biotech’s CoronaVac, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Moderna.

“Nung June, ang dumating na bakuna ay mahigit 9 million doses. Ngayong July ay mahigit 10 milyong doses ang darating, kasama narin ang mga doses na binili ng ating private sector (In June, more than 9 million doses of vaccines arrived. This July, more than 10 million doses will come, including the doses purchased by the private sector),” Dizon said in a public briefing Friday, July 2.

“Habang dumadami ang bakuna, dadami na rin ang maibibigay natin sa ating mga mayor at sa ating mga governors sa buong bansa (As the supply of vaccines increases, so will the amount of doses we can give to our mayors and our governors across the country),” he added.

The official said that the fate of the country reaching its target of achieving “population protection” against COVID-19 before the end of the year lies on the amount of incoming supply of vaccines.

“Lahat ay depende sa supply. Depende tayo sa mga deliveries na natatanggap natin sa iba’t-bang bansa at iba’t-ibang kumpanya (It all depends on supply. We depend on the deliveries we receive from different countries and different companies),” Dizon said.

“Kung kakaunti ang darating, wala tayong magagawa, yun ang realidad (If only few would arrive is to come, we cannot do anything, that is the reality),” he added.

But despite the limited supply of vaccines, Dizon expressed confidence that population protection can be achieved by end of the year.

“Kampante tayo basta dumating ang supply. Kasi syempre kung wala tayong supply, wala tayong ibabakuna (We are confident as long as the supply arrives. Because of course if we don't have the supply, we cannot vaccinate),” he said.

“Pero kung dumating ang supply, lalo na yung mga orders ng national government, ng private sector, at ng mga local governments, pag pinagsamasama natin ito at sabay-sabay tayong nagbakuna, kampante tayo na aabot tayo sa ating target bago matapos ang taon (But when the supply arrives, especially the orders of the national government, the private sector, and local governments, when we combine it and vaccinate simultaneously, we are confident that we will reach our target before the end of the year),” he added.
