The government is taking steps to facilitate a safe reopening of the economy but it will need the cooperation of the public.

With the coronavirus still posing a threat to life and livelihood, President Duterte has appealed to the public to get vaccinated against the disease. People are also advised to follow health protocols at work and when using public transportation.
The latest appeal from the President was made during the inauguration of the Light Rail Transit Line 2- East Extension project in Antipolo City Thursday, July 1.
"I encourage everyone to help the government in creating an environment that will allow the safe reopening of economic activities," Duterte said.
"We can do this by getting vaccinated against COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) and continuing to follow minimum health standards at work and in public places, especially in public transportation facilities like the LRT," he added.

Duterte earlier lauded the opening of the P9.5-billion LRT expansion project, saying it will pave the way for faster travel time between Manila and Antipolo, allow commuters to be more productive at work, and enjoy quality time with their loved ones.
Two additional LRT 2 stations, namely Marikina and Antipolo, are expected to raise the railway's daily capacity by 80,000 passengers. The project is also expected reduce the travel time between Recto, Manila to Masinag, Antipolo to 40 minutes from three hours.
Duterte said the expanded railway project will improve mobility and ensure transportation connectivity, especially in the busy eastern part of Metro Manila. The project was launched with the President entering the final year of his six-year presidency.
"Let me assure everyone that these developments will be responsive to the challenges of the 21st century and beyond so we can adapt and respond to the unexpected challenges of the times," he said.
"Let me assure you that we will fully reap the benefits of our Build, Build, Build Program as we continue to overcome the pandemic and gradually reopen our economy," he said.
He also urged the people "to remain steadfast in this journey as we reach for our final destination of achieving a more comfortable and dignified life for every Filipino."
As of July 1, the country has tallied more than 1.4 million cases of coronavirus, including 51,795 active cases and 24,797 deaths. The country remained under community quarantine in varying levels this month to curb the outbreak.
