Comelec says voting centers in May 2022 polls will be COVID safe

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said voters can vote with confidence in the May 2022 polls as voting centers are designed to be coronavirus disease (COVID-19) safe.

"We have designed our polling precincts precisely to be COVID safe which means we wil be prioritizing the use of large spaces so there will be no crowding," Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said in an online forum, Friday, July 2.

"There will be social distancing inside the polling places and in every voting center there will be health screening stations," he added.

Jimenez said there will also be an Isolation Polling Place (IPP) where people with health issues, such as those who have symptoms of COVID, will be brought.

"That means even if you have questionable health status or symptoms..and the health professionals in that place feel that it would be dangerous for you to join in with the regular population, you can vote there," he said.

"Remember, having COVID is not a disqualification...just because you have COVID it doesn't mean you cannot vote," added Jimenez.

"That's why we have special procedures for people suspected of having COVID so they can still vote safely," he said.
