Amihan Esports disbands following Riot's punishments for forging documents

Two days after Riot Games handed down harsh punishments for its falsification of documents, Amihan Esports announced its disbandment on Monday, July 19.

Amihan bared the unfortunate development through a farewell statement posted on its Facebook page.

"Our tradition here in Amihan Esports might not be similar to other organizations. But we sure did have fun. Friendships were born, dreams were made and heartbreaks were fixed," it said.

Amihan released all the players in its League of Legends: Wild Rift and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang divisions.

"We might not be together on your journey to the world championship and MPL but always bring that Amihan Blood in you. We set you free because nobody deserves to be held back. Nonetheless, we end our Amihan Esports journey here."

Amihan's MLBB team, though, will complete its participation in ongoing tournaments before leaving for good.

Amihan recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons as Riot punished them for forging documents to make Karl Ken “KARLLL” Bautista, baron laner of its Wild Rift squad, eligible for the Southeast Asia Icon Series sanctioned by the game developer.

After launching investigations, Riot found out that KARLLL was underage when Amihan registered him for the SEA Icon Series.

The developer's Rule 2.3 states that "no player shall be considered eligible to participate in any Icon Series-affiliated match before their 17th birthday, defined as having lived 17 full years."

Riot banned Amihan from competing in any of its esports events for a year while forfeiting all its prize winnings in Icon Series.

The team won a total of P950,000 for conquering the Visayas group stage and emerging as the national champion in the Icon Series PH while it bagged $8,500 (almost P430,000) for finishing at the 5th-8th place in the SEA Summer Super Cup.

KARLLL was also banned from all Riot esports for nine months, with the decision considered to have begun as of the date of his last match back in June 26.

Former team manager Christian “Ciiyan” Villegas received a one-year ban as well while Amihan owner Francis Mariano was slapped with an indefinite ban and can only apply for reinstatement in two years.

Mariano released an apology hours after Riot released its competitive ruling.
