The Philippines recorded more than 5,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Sunday, July 18.
The DOH said it found 5,411 more people who contracted the viral disease. This brought the country's running tally of confirmed cases, since the pandemic began last year, to 1,507,755.
According to the DOH's case bulletin, 47,190 or 3.1 percent of the nationwide tally are active cases.
Majority of the active cases or 91.9 percent were experiencing mild symptoms, 1.9 percent were asymptomatic, 1.6 percent were in critical condition, 2.7 percent were severely ill, and 1.88 percent were in moderate condition.
“Fifteen duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 10 are recoveries and one is a death,” the DOH noted.
The death toll jumped to 26,714 or 1.77 percent of the nationwide case count after 117 more people lost their lives, including the 82 cases that were “previously tagged as recoveries (but) were reclassified as deaths after final validation.”
Meanwhile, 5,439 more patients were able to defeat COVID-19, causing the recovery tally to increase to 1,433,851 or 95.1 percent of the overall case count.
The people were reminded to follow the health protocols and stay vigilant.
“Maging sa loob ng sarili nating mga tahanan, tiyakin ang masusing pag-iingat upang mapigilan ang higit pang pagkakahawa sa COVID-19 (Even in our own homes, remain vigilant to prevent further transmission of COVID-19),” the DOH said.
The DOH also reminded the public to immediately coordinate with their respective local government units if they experienced symptoms of COVID-19 or if they were exposed to a positive patient.
“Nariyan din ang ating mga Telemedicine Service Providers na naghahatid ng ligtas na konsultasyon para sa iba pang pangangailangang medikal (We also have our Telemedicine Service Providers who provide consultation for other medical needs),” the DOH added.
