Gumabao: No room for complacency despite big game vs Sta. Lucia

Creamline's opposite hitter Michelle Gumabao reiterated that there is no room for complacency despite her 24-point outing and the Cool Smashers' first win in the 2021 PVL Open Conference.

Gumabao spearheaded Creamline past Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors en route to a 25-18, 25-20, 25-27, 25-18 win with the help of Alyssa Valdez, who also scored 20 points, at the PVC Socio-Cultural Civic Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte on Saturday, July 17.

With the impressive performance, the former De La Salle volleybelle expressed gratefulness that their hard work is materializing early in the season.

But for Gumabao, this is just the beginning for Creamline's campaign.

"Whatever we’re training maipakita namin sa game and it was a good game, but it’s only our first game there’s a long way to go so we can’t be complacent," said Gumabao. "We can’t really be happy with the win because we have to practice again tomorrow for our next opponent so it’s a really fast tournament so kailangan ano move on kami agad."

Creamline's scoring machine counterpart, Valdez, for her part, lauded Gumabao for the explosive contribution.

"MG is one of the girls na super hardworker talaga and you can see naman 'yong energy niya and isa din siya sa mga leader ng team," said Valdez. "We're just really thankful na kakampi namin siya more than kalaban naman siya. Lahat ng pinagpaguran niya, lumalabas ngayon.

"We're just gonna be here to support her para mas madami pang points 'yong mabigay niya sa team," said the former Ateneo star.

Meanwhile, Jema Galanza also chalked up 13 points while Jeanette Panaga had five blocks tallying to 10 points overall.
