Black lauds Quinto, Pinto for putting effort on conditioning during offseason

Meralco coach Norman Black lauded Bong Quinto and Nards Pinto for their impressive showing so far in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup, saying that their conditioning is "much better" this season.

Both Quinto and Pinto have obviously lost weight compared to last season, the 45th PBA Season bubble conference, and Black said it is the result of their hard work during offseason.

"I think the good thing this year compared to last year when we were told immediately that we're going to play so a lot of guys were not in shape, this year we've had a lot more for guys to get themselves in great shape," Black said during the post-match conference after the Bolts beat the San Miguel Beermen, 93-87, at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City on Sunday, July 18.

"Bong Quinto has really worked hard on his body during the offseason and Nard Pinto has to lose weight because he has a situation. He had to lose weight just so he could stay healthy. So both of them are much more fit this year and their conditioning is much better and it's showing in the court."

Pinto posted 11 points and a steal while Quinto chalked up nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and a steal to help Meralco secure its second straight win in the All-Filipino conference.

Pinto, a product of Arellano University, also fired three-of-five from beyond the arc, all in the third quarter where he led the Bolts to a 74-59 advantage before the Beermen rallied back thanks to Terrence Romeo and Marcio Lassiter.

Last game against the NorthPort Batang Pier, Quinto, a former Letran Knight, scored eight points with five assists, four assists, and a steal while Pinto chipped in three points, four rebounds, and an assist.
