Villar confident that Las Piñas will reach herd immunity vs COVID-19
Senator Cynthia Villar on Saturday, July 17, expressed confidence that her bailiwick Las Piñas City will soon be able to achieve herd immunity against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as the number of inoculated residents in the city reached 41 percent of their population.

Villar, a former representative of the city, said that as of July 10, 246,790 out of the city's 606,293 total population were already vaccinated.
She said in her statement that with this rate, Las Piñas City "can even be ahead of the government’s target of herd immunity before the year ends."
“We are happy that soon, we would reach the herd immunity in Las Piñas due to our various initiatives to boost efforts in giving jabs to our residents to avert the spread of the coronavirus,” Villar said.
The senator further noted that the "high" number of people getting vaccinated "is a clear indication that they have overcome vaccine hesitancy".
Still, she appealed to the public to continuously comply with health protocols to prevent spread of the virus. She also reiterated that an efficient vaccination "is key to the country’s economic recovery."
"Let us not be complacent at this time because COVID-19 is still around us. It is still not safe especially with the emerging variants,” Villar said.
The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, July 16, reported that 16 new cases of Delta coronavirus variant were detected in the Philippines, 11 of which considered as local cases.
Officials, however, believed that there has yet to be a local transmission of the coronavirus variant.
