Personnel of the PCG Station El Nido, Special Operations Force (SOF), BRP Bojeador (AE-46), BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409), BRP Malapascua (MRRV-4403), and BFAR vessels, MCS-3002, MCS-3004, and MCS-3007 were deployed to conduct the rescue operations.

The PCG personnel also assisted in the evacuation efforts in barangays Pasadeña, Barotuan, and Libertad.

Meanwhile, a motorbanca that was on its way to take shelter encountered engine trouble at the height of the bad weather.

PCG Station El Nido assisted the passengers aboard the motorbanca until it safely arrived at El Nido Floating Dock in Barangay Buena Suerte, El Nido.

“Despite our pressing mandate and firm commitment to ensure maritime security and maritime safety in the West Philippine Sea and the Kalayaan Island Group, rest assured the PCG District Palawan and Coast Guard vessels under the Task Force Pagsasanay will always be there to render humanitarian assistance to the people of Palawan,” Commodore Genito Basilio, PCG district Palawan commander, said.

“We will always be there to serve with humility and compassion for this is what our distressed kababayans so deserve,” he added.

As of Friday, July 16, majority of the rescued residents were able to return to their homes after the flood subsided in the province, the PCG said.

Two low pressure areas (LPAs)--one of which may become a tropical depression--are being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday morning, July 16.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.
