Pacquiao: Same intensity, different style vs southpaw Spence

Manny Pacquiao believes that his training camp against Errol Spence Jr. pretty much has the same intensity from his previous experience but with a different approach in terms of style.

Pacquiao, who will lock horns with Spence in Las Vegas, Nevada on Aug 21, will be facing a southpaw for the first time in 13 years since knocking out David Diaz last June 2008.

The Filipino boxing legend, likewise, is unfazed with Spence's height advantage and said he has fought much taller guys before.

"He's (Spence) the kind of fighter that you cannot underestimate because he's a southpaw and I have to make sure that my strategy is accurate and perfect for his style," said Pacquiao, 42, who holds a 62-7-2 record on top of 39 knockouts.

Pacquiao, in preparation for Spence, has been sparring with two welterweight southpaw boxers in Alexis Rocha, 24, and Maurice Lee, 29.

The eight-division world boxing champion bared sparring has been "good and it helped a lot," adding that he's not going easy with both Rocha and Lee.

"You have to make sure that all you want to do in sparring, training, so that you can show your best in the fight," added the fighting senator.

Pacquiao was not granted by the WBA to reinstate him as its super WBA welterweight champion since losing it last January due to inactivity.

He has not fought since beating Keith Thurman in July 2019 via split decision while Spence, 31, remains undefeated in 27 matches with 21 KOs with the latest win coming from Danny Garcia in December last year.
