DOST preparing to send 31 scholars abroad

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) announced on Friday, July 16, that it is poised to send 31 scholars abroad under its Foreign Graduate Science and Technology (S&T) scholarship program.

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña said the program is being implemented by the Science Education Institute (SEI).

“The DOST is preparing to send 31 M.S. (Master of Science and Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) scholars abroad as part of its Human Resource Capability Building in emerging and critical areas of science and technology this school year,” announced on the DOSTv Facebook page on Friday.

He said the DOST-SEI is implementing a two-year MS or a three-year PhD full foreign graduate scholarship to qualified Filipino citizens who wish to pursue graduate programs in specialized areas in S&T in reputable universities abroad.

“These areas are either not being offered yet in any higher education institution in the country due to lack of qualified personnel to handle the program or population of experts due to brain drain, retirement, ageing population and other reasons identified as having diminished,” de la Peña said.

In May, de la Peña announced the availability of over 1,600 new slots for M.S. and more than 760 slots for Ph.D. scholarships.
