Roque wanted to hitch on 'jeepney-sized' PDP-Laban party, Pimentel says

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Thursday, July 15 hit back at presidential spokesperson Harry Roque for saying the membership of the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP-Laban) party would be reduced to a “jeepney-sized” group should they oust President Duterte as the party chairman.

“Ang PDP-Laban ay hindi isang country club na pwede lang mag-member ang mga sikat at mayayaman as they please (PDP-Laban is not a mere country club that only the rich and the famous can join as a member as they please),” Pimentel said in an interview on CNN Philippines.

“Ang PDP-Laban ay partido na may ideology at may ipinaglalaban (The PDP-Laban is a party that has an ideology and has particular advocacies),” said Pimentel, the executive vice chairman of the party.

Pimentel said he is not worried over Roque’s statement even if he meant it as an insult, saying they are not actually insulted at all.

“Nagsimula nga ang PDP-Laban sa isang tricycle pero nakapag-produce naman ng Presidente ng 2016 at madami pang gustong mag-hitch sa tricycle o jeep ng PDP-Laban (PDP-Laban’s size started off with the size of a tricycle, but we were able to produce a President in 2016 and many more wanted to hitch in the party’s tricycle or jeep),” he pointed out.

“...Si Secretary Roque...gusto ngang hu-mitch pa sa jeep na ‘yan (Roque also wanted to hitch a ride on our jeepney),” Pimentel said.

And should the party’s members be reduced again to a small number, Pimentel said they will do their best to strive again to sell the PDP-Laban’s main ideology and basic principles and participate in the elections once again.

“Who knows, with the people’s support, and the blessings of God we might return to becoming the ruling party,” Pimentel said.

“Hindi rin naman yan ang purpose ng establishment ng PDP-Laban na maging ruling party or to be always the ruling party. Hindi po, ang importante sa amin is to propagate our basic principles, objectives and beliefs. Ikalat at ieducate ang mga tao (That is not the purpose of the establishment of the PDP-Laban, to be the ruling party or to be always the ruling party. No. what is important to us is to propagate our basic principles, objectives and beliefs. To spread and educate the people about this),” the senator said.
