Rookie cop braves NPA bullets to teach Davao IP children to read and write

Once a teacher, always a teacher.

So when Patrolman Noel Amor found out that there is a large group of children who could not read and write in a remote area in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, he saw it as an opportunity to go back to his first passion.

A teacher by profession, Amor was among the members of the Revitalized-Pulis sa Barangay, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 11 which as tasked to educate children of indigenous community in Barangay Dagohoy who were deprived of basic education due to the distance of their community.

HIs passion to teach students also nearly got him killed when suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) repeatedly shot him in an ambush while on his way to get several modules that will be used for the children of Barangay Dagohoy.

The attack was an attempt to scare the policemen from pursuing education for children in Barangay Dagohoy and nearby areas.

Amor survived the ambush but the attack paralyzed of one of his arms. However, it did not discourage him to continue educating the indigenous children.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T Eleazar commended Amor for continuing to provide public service beyond duty despite his condition.

“Saludo ako kay Patrolman Amor dahil hindi niya iniinda ang kanyang kondisyon makapagtaguyod lang ng kailangang serbisyo sa Barangay Dagohoy. Mas iniisip niya ang kapakanan at pangangailangan sa edukasyon ng kabataan sa komunidad keysa sa sarili (I salute Patrolman Amor because he showed the meaning of police service in Barangay Dahohoy. HIs priority is the education of the children in that community)," said Eleazar.

Eleazar also assured that due recognition will be given to Patrolman Amor for his dedication to police service. He also tasked the PNP Health Service to coordinate with Patrolman Amor for any assistance that the PNP could provide for his full recovery.

The PNP Chief also cited other members of the R-PSB, RMFB11 for joining in the effort to deliver basic education to the children in the barangay.
