Rain showers, thunderstorm seen over parts of S. Luzon, Visayas due to 'habagat'
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) continues to monitor the low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
As of 3 a.m. Thursday, July 15, the weather disturbance was located 1,600 kilometers east of Central Luzon, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
Estareja said the LPA is expected to enter the PAR, but it has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours and is seen not to make landfall.
However, the weather specialist noted that the LPA may gradually enhance the effects of the southwest monsoon or “habagat” affecting the western section of Southern Luzon and Visayas, and could bring more rains in the next few days.
Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorm brought by the habagat may affect Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan and Mindoro Provinces.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to combined effects of the habagat and localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA has not issued a gale warning, meaning that fishing boats and other small sea craft are allowed to venture out into the sea.
