Women in leadership: PCG conducts first female enlisted leaders forum

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted the first female enlisted leaders forum to discuss gender issues in the workplace and at home.

The participants are composed of female Coast Guard enlisted leaders with the ranks of Chief Petty Officer (CPO), Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO), and Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO), the activity was held last July 8 at the PCG National Headquarters in Manila.

The PCG said the forum also served as an avenue to promote “Women in leadership: Achieving equal future in the PCG.”

Captain Venus Venus Guldaquever, who graced the initiative, has also shared mentoring techniques and good practices “to foster respect and obedience from subordinates.”

“These included gender and development (GAD) issues in the uniformed service with Professor Juliet Almajar – Halibas; focus group discussion among female PCG enlisted leaders amid the COVID-19 pandemic with Captain Mitzie Campo; and peer counseling with Commander Leila Tatel,” the PCG said in a statement on Tuesday, July 13.

Meanwhile, the PCG also conducted series of courses for all-female personnel including rescue divers course and first-ever PCG’s radio operator course.
