PCG intensifies patrol for Batangas fishermen checking fish cages in Taal Lake

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has intensified its regular patrol to monitor local fishermen checking their fish cages at Taal Lake amid the continuous threat of eruption from the volcano.

The move is to ensure the safety of the fishermen sailing during the 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. “window hours” to harvest and check their fish cages at Taal Lake.

The PCG, citing the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) – Calabarzon, said at least 5,100 residents are maintaining more than 6,300 fish cages at Taal Lake, which were reserved for production of fish such as “bangus” and “tilapia.”

Apart from the maritime patrol, the Coast Guard also continuously conducted transport missions, relief operation, and monitor evacuation centers in Batangas.

Only six volcanic tremors that lasted 12 minutes were recorded at Taal Volcano in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Wednesday, July 14.

The Phivolcs asked residents around Taal Lake to "calmly" prepare for possible evacuation should Taal Volcano's unrest intensifies.
